DAVID OTIENO
Meet David Otieno, a 5 years old boy living in Kawangware informal settlement with his single mother together with her other siblings. They have lived in this slum for 5 years now and they consider this slum as their domicile. David’s father abandoned them when David was still a little kid leaving his mother behind to take care of them. This has been a burden to her mother and sometimes she feels like giving up. Their family consist of 5 members in total this includes his mother and them. David’s mother is currently working as a security guard a job that doesn’t give her enough money to cater for her family’s welfare. Sometimes she might go to work and come home empty handed. At the same time, David is not going to school simply because his mother cannot afford to pay his school fees. Despite reaching a school going age he has not joined school yet simply because her mother cannot afford to pay his school fees. David has been raised in a family that honors Christianity and his mother is hoping that one day he will be able to go to school. At home sometimes they lack something to eat simply because there is no money. Sometimes his mother is forced to borrow so that they can have something to eat. David also don’t have good clothes; he usually relies on those that are torn and old something which makes his friends to ignore him. They also live in a small house which has not been equipped by electricity and home furniture. Their house is made out of iron sheet, a house that sometimes leaks in water whenever it rains. Her mother was requesting for any available support so that David can go back to school.
