MARAH SHANTA
Meet Marah Shanta a 3 years old girl living in Kawangware informal settlement together with her single mother and her siblings. Marah is the last born in the family that consist of 9 members including her single mother. Their family has resided here in Kawangware slums since 2010 and they now consider this slum as their area of domicile. Marah’s father passed away long time ago when she was still a little child and her mother was the one who was left with the responsibility of taking care of them. Previously, they were living in south c but due to demolitions they were victims and that’s how they ended up in the streets of Kawangware. Life in Kawangware slums was not that promising as they thought with challenges here and there forcing their family to live in a small house which they built using a polyethene. Marah’s mother is currently unemployed and she depend on odd and minor job like washing clothes for other people in order for her to earn an income to feed her family. At the same time Marah has reached a school going age but she is currently at home having not joined any school. The status of their house usually put their health at risk specifically during the day when there is extremely hot and night when its extremely cold. At home food is always a problem, most of the time they end up either borrowing or begging so as to have something to eat at home. Some of Marah’s siblings are victims of malnutrition and when things remain constant, she can become a victim of the same.
