
FIDEL CASTRO
Meet Fidel Castro, a 14 years old boy residing in Kawangware informal settlement with his siblings together with his single mother. They have stayed in Kawangware for 3 years a place which they consider as their area of domicile. Fidel’s father abandoned them and went away after impregnating his mother for the third time, he left Fidel’s mother with responsibility of taking care of Fidel and his siblings. For now, Fidel is the first born in the family that consist of 4 members in total this includes his single mother. His mother is currently unemployed and she only does odd and minor jobs like cleaning other people’s clothes in order for her to earn an income. His mother’s job is not guaranteed meaning that there are times when she can go and come home without any money for food. Currently Fidel is not going to school, he was supposed to be in grade 6 but financial difficulties at home has hindered him from going to school. He had a huge balance in his previous school and the school administration decided to send him home never to return. They experience these challenges even at home forcing them sometimes to borrow food from their neighbors of sleep hungry whenever there is no money to buy food. Fidel has also a health related challenges; severe headache which usually hinder his daily activities. Most of the times his friends end up ignoring him because he has clothes which are torn, old and ugly. Fidel’s family usually goes to church and they are Christians in nature. They also live in a small house that is made of iron sheet a house which is filled with holes due to rust and sometimes it usually leaks in water whenever it rains. Fidel also don’t have school resources that can assist him whenever there is an intervention. His mother was pleading for help so that Fidel can go to school.
