PURITY VUGUZA

Purity Vuguza is a 14-year-old girl living on the outskirts of Kawangware, Nairobi, Kenya, with her single mother and two siblings. Their home is a modest dwelling made of iron sheets, offering little protection from the harsh weather. Purity’s father abandoned the family 13 years ago, leaving her mother, Rebecca Akai, to struggle as a single vendor to provide for their basic needs.

Despite missing almost a year of school due to financial constraints, Purity remains hopeful for the future. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer and lifting her family out of poverty. Rebecca could no longer afford school fees for all three children, so she prioritized putting food on the table and keeping a roof over their heads. This often meant going to bed hungry or having only one meal a day. Purity’s story is one of resilience and hope in the face of hardship. Despite the challenges, she hasn’t given up on her dreams, and her determination is an inspiration.
