DOREEN AKOLONG

Meet Doreen Akolong a 14 years old girl living in Kawangware informal settlement together with her parents and other siblings. They have managed to stay in Kawangware slums for more than 4 years now. Their household consist of 8 members in total this includes her parents and other siblings. His parents are currently unemployed but only depend on the small amount that comes through odd and minor job that they do. Doreen’s father earns a living through his artisan work which pays him little amount while his mother only depends on odd job like washing other people’s clothes so as to earn a living. The little amount that her parents get is the one that is shared to suite house expenses. Currently, Doreen is not going to school simply because poverty has stricken their house and her parents cannot afford to pay her school fees. She has been away from school since last year simply because the school administration where she was studying send her home never to return without clearing the balance. At home things are also not that perfect, most of the times they end up going to bed without taking any meal for them daily meal is a challenge and they cannot afford that. Doreen is also an innocent girl who doesn’t have proper clothes to wear, most of the time she depends on old clothes which makes her friends to avoid her. They live in a small house that is made of iron sheet a house that makes it challenging for them to live. Dorren’s parents were requesting for any available support so that she can go back to school.
