Adrian is eight-year-old boy and the 2nd child in a family of 2 children. He lives with her grandmother, brother and cousins in one roomed mud house in Kibera slum at a house hold of 8 people.

Her grandmother is the sole provider, does occasional casual jobs i.e. within the slum of Kibera to earn a living but that incomes she earns its hardly enough to cater for family needs/expenses. The casual jobs are not readily available and no guaranteed of any payment after the works.

The father abandoned the children when there were small children. The grandmother says supporting the family has become a challenge and she is stressed since family expenses overwhelmed the little money she gets. Paying school fees to her four grandchildren has become a challenge and is regularly at home due to lack of school fees. Her auntie is still admitted to Kenyatta national hospital and   paying hospital consolation fee / admission was a problem thus neighbors had to contribute some cash to support the family.  Food is a major challenge the family face and hardly afford meals a day and the only meal there are sure of is the feeding done at Karama school where her four grandchildren are beneficiary., paying house rent is also a challenge and on severally occasional they have slept on cold after being forced out by caretaker.

Adrian is a discipline boy and performs average in class. Adrian need education support so that he can accomplish his dream.

BARACK OBAMA

Date of Birth :13/8/2007

Barack is a twelve-year-old boy and the 2nd child in a family of 3 children. He lives with her mother, grandmother and sibling in a household of 8 people in a one roomed mud house in Kibera slum.

His mother passed away early this year while she was 31 years old. She was HIV positive and epileptic for 7 years so she could not search for any reliable jobs in the slum while the father is unknown. She sometimes lost consciousness, walks out alone and gets prone to all manner of sexual assault.

His grandmother is 54 years old and the breadwinner to the family, she does occasional casual jobs in the slum of Kibera to earn a living but the income hardly enough to cater for the family needs. His grandfather passed on some years back after he had a tragic accident.

Barack’s family hardly affords one meal a day and many times the family go without meals. Barack and his sister are in Karama School and depend on the feeding program at Karama since at home there is no assurance of any food. Paying house rent is another problem major problem the family faces and have often been forced out due to pending house arrears. The house they live in is also in poor condition, roof leaks and water seeps in. The children sleep on the floor since the family cannot afford a better shelter. Latifa and her cousin is regularly at home due to school fees arrears and the grandmother is unable to clear. The grandmother is pleading for education assistance. Her grandmother is aging and since she is the sole provider, she can be assisted by expand her business to earn income and support the family.

ANGEL AKINYI

ANGEL AKINYI

Angel Akinyi is an eight year old girl living in the slums of Kibera. She lives with her parents and five siblings. The family of 8 lives in a single room in the slums of kibera

Both Angels’ parents are unemployed, her father was employed as a cleaner but lost his job he now does casual jobs to try and make ends meet for his family. He wash cars in the slum to earn a living unfortunately the money he gets is hardly enough since the job is rarely and sometimes no payment. Her mother operates a small kiosk where she sells small items.

 Due to hardship and struggle the family face his father has to look for reliable casual jobs to bring food to the table in the evening , pay rent and educate the other children but often the family are an able to Afford basic needs i.e. food, good shelter and education. Recently Angel’s father was sick and could not go out, he was helping his wife at the kiosk. Also the family says the greatest challenge they face is supporting angel education and her sibling. Occasionally angel and her sibling are regularly at home due to school fees problem hence the absenteeism is affecting angel education and her sibling.

The only meal is assured is the daily lunch meal offered at the school. The pride of a father seeing his children eating and having clothes could not stop him from helping out where he can. 

Angel is a bright girl, likes reading, jovial and supporting angel education will be of great help since she can be a pillar to her family and a role model. Supporting angel education, the young girl is rescued from peer pressure, reduce vulnerability to disease and early/unplanned pregnancy in the slum.

AYUB OSMAN

Date of Birth: 23/12/2008

Ayub is a ten-year-old boy and the second child in a family of 4 children. He lives with his father, step mother and sibling in Kibera slum. The family inherited the house they live in. His biological parents divorced when he was still a small child.

The step mother is the sole provider, does occasional casual jobs within the slum to earn a living but the income hardly enough to cater the family needs .Ayub’s father suffers from a growth in the alimentary canal. He finds it hard to swallow food. He also has ulcers that have affected his mouth.

Most of the money they can get is consumed in medication and house expenses. Food is a major challenge the family face .Ayub depends on the feeding program offered at Karama School since at home there is possibility of sleeping hungry. Paying school fees to Ayub and his sibling a major challenge and he is regularly sent home due to school fees.

Ayub is discipline boy and perform average at school. He likes playing footballer during his free time.Ayub need education support so that he can achieve his future dream.

Brighton is a 9-year-old and the 3rd child in a family 4 children. He  lives with her mother,3 sibling,1 nephew in a house of 6 in a  one roomed mud  house in Kibera slum.

Her mother is the sole provider, sell food stuff in the slum of Kibera to earn a living but the income she gets is too little to cater for family expenses and also to buy new stock. Her mother is HIV positive. His father passed on due to hiv/aids complication.

The family hardly affords to pay house rent and school fees for Brighton and her siblings is a major challenge the family. Brighton and his sibling are really at home due to lack of school fees. Brighton is a bright boy, among the best performing pupils in his class and he likes playing soccer during his free time. Brighton would like to be a pilot

Caden is a young boy and the 2nd child in a family of 3 children. He lives with her single mother and her 2 brother r in a one roomed mud house in kibera slum.

Her mother is jobless and the sole provider .she does volunteer work with the amreff foundation  in the slum of Kibera top earn a living but the allowance she gets is in adequate to cater for the family expenses. During her free time she has to look for manual jobs in the slum to increase her income but often the casual jobs are not readily available. The father to Caden abandoned the family when his mother was tested and diagnosed to be HIV positive and since then his where about is unknown.

The family hardly afford two meals a day, paying house rent is a challenge and on severally occasional they have been forced out by the shanty care taker due to pending house arrears .caden and her sibling are regularly at home due to lack of school fees. We are requesting education support to caden and also we can assist her mother by setting a small business so that she can feed her family and other house hold expenses.

Caden is a bright boy and among the best performing pupils in his class. He is discipline and neat.

Daisy is the 3rd child in a family of 4 children. She lives with her mother and 2 siblings in one roomed house in Kibera slum.

Her mother is the breadwinner, does occasional casual jobs within the slum of Kibera but the income she earns is hardly enough to cater for the family expenses. The father abandoned the children when they were still smaller and since then his where about is unknown.

Daisy and her sister Stacy comes from a poor family background where the mother has to tarmac every day to look for any reliable jobs within the slum to feed her family but most of the time she has been unlucky. Her elder brother is epileptic and  due to financial challenge the family could not  managed his condition so heart to heart had to intervene in by supporting her brother by referring him  to Karama school in Mombasa which is  one of the school supported by NSP aid.

The major challenge the family face is food and hardly affords two meals a day, paying house rent is another problem the family face and on severally occasional they have been forced out by the shanty care taker due to pending house arrears. Paying school has been also a challenge to the family and Daisy is regularly at home due to school fees .the family is unable to clear school fees balance for previous years. Heart to heart had to pay exam fees for Stacy and her sister so they they can sit for their exam.

Daisy  is a discipline girl and among the best performing pupils in her class. We are appealing for education support to Daisy so that she can achieve her dream.

EISTEEN MACHARIA

Eisteen  macharia is the last child in family of 3 children. He lives with her mother and his 2 sibling in a one roomed house constructed of iron sheets. His mother is jobless and the breadwinner to the family.

His mother does occasional casual jobs within the slum of kibera to earn a living i.e.  Washes cloth in Kibera so that she can put food on her table but the house expenses overwhelmed the little income she gets. The father abandoned the family in the year 2012 due to domestic issues and since then where about is unknown.

The major challenge the family face is food, house rent and school fees.Esiteen is a bright boy, he is among the best performing boys in his class. His mother is unable to pay school fees for eaten and his sibling hence they are regularly at home due to lack of school fees.

Elizabeth is the 2 born in a family 6 children. He lives with his mother, 4 siblings and 1 step brother in a household of six. They all live in a single mud house in Kibera slum.

Her mother is the sole provider for the family and she fends for the family by selling road side snacks in the slum of Kibera to earn a living but the income she gets is too little to cater for family expenses. She is HIV positive. The father past on due to HIV and AIDS related disease.

The family hardly affords to pay house rent. School fees for Elizabeth and his siblings is a major challenge the family faces and Elizabeth and her sibling are usually at home due to lack of school fees Her  niece is epileptic and the mother is unable to enroll the young girl into a special school due to financial constraints.

Elizabeth needs education support so that she can achieve her dream. She likes playing netball during her free time.

Elsie is the last born in a family of 4 children. She lives with her mother and 3 siblings in a one roomed house in Kibera slum.

Her mother is the sole provider, does tailoring job in the slum of Kibera to earn a living but the income is hardly enough to cater for the family needs. She says current the business is not productive .she says client are few and also lack money to buy new stocks. The father to Elsie abandoned the children when there were still small and since then his where about is unknown.

The mother says taking care of her four children is a challenge since her main source of income is hardly enough to meet the family expenses. Feeding her family has been affected since she cannot feed them properly and paying house rent is still a problem .she is un able to pay school fees to Elsie and  her sibling and frequently they are at home due to school fees problem.

Elsie is a bright girl, disciple and among the performing girls in class .He plays soccer during his free time and he would like to be a doctor. The young boy needs education support so that he can achieve his future dream and we can help the family by boosting her mother source of income so that she can support her children.

Fidel is eight years old boy and the 2nd child in a family of 5 siblings. He lives with her singer mother, 3 siblings in a single room (mad-thatched) in a house hold of 7.

The mother is the sole provider  does  occasion jobs in the slum to earn a living but expenses/need overwhelm the the  little  income she gets .The father passed on due to hiv,aids related diseases luckily her mother turn to be hiv negative.

The family is financially unstable, hardly afford meals a day, the family sleep hungry and sometime even breakfast is a problem and the only meal the children are sure is the meals offered at the school. Paying rent is another problem the family faces. On many occasions the family sleeps on cold after being forced to vacate from their house to due to pending house arrears.

School fees to Fidel and his sibling is a challenge. Fidel and his sibling are often at home due to school fees problem. The family is still struggling to settle school fees balance

Marion is fifteen years old and the second child a family of 4 children. She lives with her widowed mother and three siblings in one roomed mud house in Kibera slum. Marion is HIV positive and on medication.

Her mother is the sole provider. She does occasion casual jobs within the slum of Kibera to earn a living, but the income she gets is hardly enough to meet the daily needs. The casual jobs are rarely available in the slum and no guarantee of any payment after works. The mother says feeding her four children has been a difficult task since she hardly searches for any regular jobs in the slum since she is HIV positive, and in and out of the hospital. She has kidney problems, and her leg is swollen which limits her ability to work.

The father passed on due to HIV/AIDs related illness and left the burden to the mother. Food is a major challenge the family faces. Children sleep on empty stomach and to afford a cup of tea is a problem. They depend from the small shopping done by Heart to Heart once in a while. Paying house rent is a challenge, and on several occasion, they have slept in the cold after being forced from their home due to pending house arrears. The house is also in poor condition, and it has been affected by the rain. The floods have swept some parts of the walls, and hence at night, the room is cold, water peeps in making the room un comfortable for the family. The family has tried to fix and rebuild the wall, but it is still a challenge. Marion and her sibling are regularly at home due to lack of school fees. The mother is unable to educate her children and clearing previous school balance is a problem. Marion needs education support

Metrine is eleven years girl and 5th child in a family of 6 children. She lives with her parent and sibling in a one roomed mud house in kibera.

The father does occasional casual jobs like construction site within the slum of kibera to feed her family. Since family expense overwhelmed the income he gets. her mother was forced to look for casual jobs in the slum so that she can assisted metrine’s father .luckily she managed to secure cooking  job at Karama School.

The major problem the family face is school fees. Metrine and her sibling are regularly at home due to school fees. Her 3 sibling are in high school while one is in a college institution but the parent are un able to support their education Paying house rent is another problem the family are facing, the roof leaks and water seeps. The children sleep on floor and others in arm chairs since the parent are un able to secure a better shelter or their sibling, also the room is too small.

Metrine is a bright girl and among the best performing girls in her class. She likes playing skipping .metrine need education support so that she can achieve her dream.

Saada is a young girl and the last child in a family of 4 children. She lives with her grandmother, siblings in a house hold of 8 people. Her grandmother is aged and unwell.

The grandmother old and she is looked upon by her children and grandchildren since she is the only the breadwinner the family rely on. The extended family are at rural home and are financially unstable and even transport to the village is another problem. The grandmother at least on good health she does occasional casual jobs in the slum to support her family unfortunately the income she gets is not adequate to cater for the family needs.

 The grandmother was diagnosed with blood pressure and due to financial challenge she is un able to buy medication continuously to boost her health so she  un able to provide to the family hence they sleep on empty stomach. The come she gets is  not  enough ,hardly equated to meet the basic needs and sometimes the money is consumed by medication.one packet of drug cost around ksh.200.these condition has limit her capabilities to feed her family. The grandmother says feeding her family is a big challenge since no help from the extended family.

Sande   is 6 years old boy and the 1st born in a family of 2 children. He lives with his parent’s and his brother in a one roomed mud house in Kibera slum.

His father is the sole provider, does occasional casual jobs within Kibera slum to earn a living unfortunately the income he earns too little to cater for the family needs.

The father says supporting the family has become a challenge and she is stressed since family needs by far outweigh the little money she gets.

Paying school fees for his 2 children is a challenge and Sande and his younger brother are constantly at home due to lack of school fees.

Food is a major challenge the family faces and paying house rent is another problem. On several occasions, they have slept out in the cold after being forced out by the shanty owner due to pending house arrears.

Sande performs averagely in school but this can be attributed to the tough living conditions he faces at home. If provided with a better environment at home and facilitated to stay in school, we believe Sande can grow into a productive member of society. We therefore appeal for support to help Sande get an education.

Sarah likes playing with her classmate during leisure time, likes painting and performs average in the class. Sarah would like to be a nurse.

Stacy is the last born in a family of 4 children. She lives with her single mother and siblings in a one-roomed mud house in Kibera slum.

Her mother is the sole provider. She works in Karama School as a chef. Unfortunately, the wages she gets is not enough to cater family needs/expenses. The father abandoned the family and since then his where about is unknown.

The greatest challenge the family faces is food, house rent and school fees for Stacy and her siblings. The family is unable to raise fees for Stacy and her two brothers who are in a high learning institution. The siblings are always at home due to lack of school fees.

Stacy is a bright and disciplined girl. We are requesting for education support for Stacy.
